Vanity Plates are available in the Passenger, Combination, Commercial, Motorcycle, Camper, and Camp Trailer registration types.  The same plate number can be issued in each of the registration types mentioned above.

In order to apply for a vanity plate the vehicle must:

• Be permanently registered in Connecticut.
• Be updated in our database.
           -   If you have recently registered your vehicle, please call the DMV at 860-263-5154 with your current marker plate number before mailing your application to avoid delays.
           -   If the vehicle is due for renewal, please renew the current registration before applying for vanity plates.   

Please note that applications for vehicles registered out-of-state or with a temporary registration will not be accepted. 

You may only acquire the same registration type as is currently on your vehicle. For example, if you currently have Combination plates on your vehicle, you can only apply for Combination plates - you cannot obtain Combination plates if your vehicle is currently registered with Passenger plates.

Vanity plate requests must be made on the Special Order Plate Application (form M-22).

The fee is $90.

VANITY PLATE OPTIONS:

1. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6 letters. Plates may include a dot between letters.
2. 1 letter followed by 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 numbers
3. 2 letters followed by 1, 2, 3 or 4 numbers
4. 3 letters followed by 1, 2 or 3 numbers
5. 4 letters followed by 1 or 2 numbers
6. 5 letters followed by 1 number
7. 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 numbers followed by 1 letter
8. 1, 2, 3, or 4 numbers followed by 2 letters
9. 1 or 2 numbers followed by 3 or 4 letters
10. 1 number followed by 5 letters
11. Numbers: 00001 through and including 99999
12. Numbers: 000001 through and including 999999.  Note:  Six numbers will be separated by a dot (example: 999·999).

A dot will separate all letters from numbers. There will be no dashes or extra spaces between letters.  However, one dot is allowed if your request is for all letters.

Every attempt will be made to accommodate your request. The Department of Motor Vehicles reserves the right to deny issuance of certain requests.
